“When I admire the wonder of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in worship of the Creator.”
–Mahatma Ghandi
Did you know that on a Google search, “sunset” yields 88,500,000 results, while “sunrise” yields only 56,200,000?
Why is that?
I’m wondering if it’s because we prefer holding on to a known ending to seizing an unknown beginning. Or it could be that light moving into darkness provokes in us a yearning and a sense of impending loss. A sunset is about letting go, reflection and appreciating. A sunrise is all about darkness blooming into light. All possibilities are ahead of us, and every moment brings its own choices.
We can only appreciate the miracle of a sunrise if we have waited in the darkness.
