"Several years ago, after seeing some beautiful plates that Teri had created, I commissioned her to do a series of butterflies for me. The plates are a beautiful milky white, square with taupe colored butterflies in the center.

I could eat off of these plates, but instead I have chosen to place them in strategic areas around my home. Two are hanging on the walls above large beeswax candles, two are hanging on the walls adjacent to my cocktail bar, and one greets me when I enter the doorway.

When I light the candles, a ray of light rises up and illuminates the butterflies. Initially, my intention was to use the plates daily & I could do that if I wanted. But something special happened. I quickly recognized that Teri's art has a magical quality to it. The plates are symbolic representations of specific energy that illuminates areas in my home that otherwise might not be utilized.

I am very cautious when purchasing art, as I feel it transfuses the energy of the artist into the space. Teri's artistic expression cultivates an energy of massive strength coupled with a focused, rare & relaxed beauty. If you know her, It's very, very palpable. Not only is it palpable in her being but she expresses it exquisitely in her art."

“If you're among those lucky enough to BE with Teri Hannigan's art, you'll get to feel deeply both the earthy, natural fullness of life in her works, and at the same time, how she reaches right into your soul with such a fierce yet tender grasp of what it is to be a human on this earth.  Teri herself is a masterpiece, a generous and heartfelt gift, and it shows in every bit of her work.  I love having a piece of her beauty in my home.”

“In our community center in downtown Calabasas, there is a long hall where the work of local artists are hung. Passing these over the years, I noticed many were pleasing, or pretty, but unremarkable in subject or technique. That is, until, they displayed the paintings of Topanga artist, Teri Hannigan. I saw the difference immediately. All the pieces were original in concept, even as they were abstract, but playful and contrasting in the colors she used. Black appeared as an exclamation in some. They drew me in right away, and I reluctantly narrowed it down to two to buy.

When I drove up to her Topanga home and studio to pick up the work, I was struck by the fact that everything  about Teri–her home, her gardens, her views, her outdoor furniture–were art. Entering the home I saw displayed everywhere the other media she works in. She is a gifted and recognized ceramicist, and sculptor.

I love and collect ceramics–ethnic, whimsical, functional, cultural, cerebral.  But Teri’s work does not reduce to those categories. She brings a whimsical, but also steely and clear view of the human being out in her pieces. They are very unusual, personal and yet, tribal. Amusing and ironic. Fanciful and ugly.

They express a wide range of human emotions and experience, and a very clear view of our human place in nature, and its impact on us.

Teri is the kind of artist you must visit again and again.  As with any committed artist, her styles and techniques and materials change. Her interests, and the ideas she is expressing, continue to grow.

I feel privileged to have discovered an artist whose work I can grow with and remain fascinated by, and to have discovered a person I instantly knew would be my friend."

"I am amazed and awakened by Teri Hannigan’s art.  The depth of it, the beauty, the hilarity, the wisdom, the poignancy, the insight, the high originality of it…Teri’s incredibly varied work embodies not just the conceptual whack and physical engagement of the best Art, but somehow expresses the archetypal mysteries that energize the world and empower us as human beings.  It refreshes, it revitalizes, it reminds us that the fluid mysteries of Life can actually take physical form.  And isn’t that what Art is all about?"

“Ancient, mythical, and magical elements swirled together in profound harmony and beauty. There is surprise in every color and textural unfolding.  It is three-dimensional poetry!”
–Elizabeth O. Santa Barbara, CA

"When I first witnessed artist Teri Hannigan’s work, I was amazed with the heart-felt, fierce, unbridled colors and edgy elements (knives, bones, primal masks, demonic continence) coming from one so cultivated.

Teri’s work has the essential quality I require in art–an enduring sense of mystery, the promise of a conversation that patiently reveals its depth and poignancy year after year.

Teri's juicy paintings and sculptures leave me hungry and yearning for more.”
