Empty Room

Empty Room photo by Teri Hannigan

2017

These images were inspired by a dream.

I am standing naked before an enormous blank canvas that reaches from floor to ceiling. Suddenly, paint of every imaginable and as-yet-unimagined colors began oozing from my pores. I pressed my body into the canvas and began rolling over the surface, as in a dance. When I stood back to look at it, I realized I was in the presence of God. When I woke up, tears were flowing from my eyes.

Here, I just captured my shadows as it merged with the walls, and the edges of darkness and light in the empty room as the daylight shifted.

Sometimes I wrestle with how perfect the blank canvas is, the empty room. There is nothing to interrupt just being…breathingā€¦and the perfection of what is always already happening. I tell myself that breaking through this to create something else requires some kind of force.

Here, I have set this aside. Something is about to begin and I am just marinating in the possibilities. My shadow is a witness
