Stoneware

Each of us has been wounded is one way or another. Sometimes we wrap a bandage of numbness around our hearts, disconnecting from our bodies to avoid feeling the hurt.
Pain happens in life–we have no control over what happens to us. But suffering is a choice. The distinction between pain and suffering is that suffering in an ongoing perpetuation and focus on pain that already happened. Being with and feeling pain while it’s happening in the moment allows us to move it through our bodies. In this, is a open-flowering beauty.
To create the texture on this piece, I pressed cotton gauze on the soft surface of the clay, finishing with a matte white glaze on the body and different shades of pink underglazes on the flower.
