2017

I feel a deep connection to the earth, and everything that grows from it. If I need to charge my batteries, fill up with life, the garden is where I refuel and reconnect.

While I love digging in the soil and planting new things, I also delight in the meditative quality of maintaining everything on my land. Pruning trees and bushes artfully, deadheading flowers, training vines on the pergola, harvesting vegetables and fruits, even taking out plants that have died.

It reminds me that the mundane and the sublime are one, and that Nature never has a plan. She does what needs to be done without a “to-do” list.

I remember splurging on these Felco #7 pruners 30 years ago! It was the beginning of my love of tinkering in the garden.
